PAUL LEWING ART

I never wanted to be anything other than an artist.

I started painting in oils when I was eight, and sold my first painting when I was ten.  I never wanted to be anything other than an artist.  In college, I got seduced by clay and glazes, and made my living as a potter for 22 years.  Since 1986, my ceramic work has been on ceramic tile. I have done well over 1000 tile commissions.

In 2008, I started painting again, this time in acrylic.  It’s like being a kid again, and I’m painting the same things I was painting as a kid- landscapes and wildlife.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy doing them.

“Paul is a joy to work with. Talented and professional, he took our ideas and made them better than we could have imagined."

 Paul’s Specialties

Landscapes

One of the Hudson River School painters, Thomas Cole, said, “If landscape and religion are not identical, they are at least inseparable”.  That about sums up my feeling about landscape.  I’ve been a landscape painter all my life.

Animals

When I was a kid, the illustrations in my father’s outdoor magazines were about the only art I ever saw.  For a while I thought I’d like to be an illustrator.
I’ve been an avid bird and animal watcher all my life.

Bark and Birds

The Bark & Birds series started as my response to the isolation of COVID19 restrictions in the spring of 2020. My neighborhood got very quiet just as the birds got noisy.
